Pledge to End Homelessness Campaign
:

The Mission partnered with the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Task Force to “pledge to end homelessness”. The Task Force was the featured community organization on February 12 and 13, 2010 at the Holland Park Celebration site during the 2010 Winter Olympics. The Task Force launched its “Pledge to End Homelessness” campaign at the event.

This campaign invited people to pledge to take an action to end homelessness until April 30, 2010.

Today, you can still take action to end homelessness. Examples include volunteering with a local group, donating to a good cause, organizing a community meeting, holding a fundraising event, or any other idea you have.

We all have a role to play in ending homelessness.

The 2010 Olympics and Paralympics emphasized inclusion and social responsibility. To promote the Pledge to End Homelessness campaign, BC composer Bill Sample donated his song In the Midst of Plenty performed by award-winning singer, Shari Ulrich, for use as a public service announcement. The PSA can be viewed on the home page at www.pledgetoendhomelessness.org

Mission Volunteer Corps: Recycling at the City of Surrey’s 2010 Celebration Site

The City of Surrey was an official partner of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In February, Surrey played host to the biggest Olympic Games celebration south of the Fraser River, held at Holland Park. It was a 13-day free winter festival featuring live entertainment, live Games broadcasts, arts performances and on-site activities for families.

The Mission Volunteer Corps and community volunteers teamed together in a massive recycling effort at the site. They collected and processed truckloads of cans, bottles and juice containers. Money raised from this activity will be put towards obtaining household items, accessing job skills courses, and other initiatives to help people move forward in their lives.
